I own a house in FL and also in PA. Many times I leave a truck in FL with PA tags and pick it up a few months later on next trip down. It's got good tags and inspection from PA. Wonder if I am a violator.
Simply put, your Driver's License state and vehicle license plate state should be the same, especially in high enforcement states (which are usually the high personal property tax rate states) like CA and FL. It may not be right but those states think anything you own should be registered in their state if that's where your Driver's License is from (thereby claiming "residency"). And, no, "residency" and having a house in a particular state are not necessarily the same thing.
