If you don't have a reservation for Long Key SP, then it may be a mute point. I checked for the next two months and there were not sites available. Of course you can always try the "walk up" option and may be able to find one this way.
Have you checked the other three State Parks in the Keys? Sometimes you can snare on at John Pennekamp Coral Reef SP at the beginning of the Keys in Largo. They aren't quite as busy as the others.
FYI: We camped at Long Key SP from 1996 thru 2006. In 1996 the sites were 80-90 ft deep and shielded by trees and shrubs from your neighbor. Then they started to remove the Australian Pine trees since they weren't "native" and since then the shoreline has receded to the point where now the longest site will only take a 38 ft unit. It is a shame that this had happened to a beautiful park.
Good luck.
