For those of you towing "TJ" version Jeeps.
Gents,
This really doesn't apply to any other version of Jeep, just the TJ version. And, as far as I know, any and ALL TJs are included. We all know they come with standard roll up windows and, manual or, key-use door locks. Well, we've had some nice cars and trucks in the past and, most of them have come with power windows and power door locks.
So, I figured what the heck, let's see about setting up our present toad, an '03 TJ Rubicon with both power windows and power door locks. So, I enquired on Jeep site and, found out yep, it's not only possible but, there's readily available kits for both jobs.
Now, first off, this thread is somewhat related to RV stuff in the fact that, like stated, many out there in RV land tow TJ version Jeeps and, in many cases, you're always goofing around with them, doing this or that to them. Well, this is purely a "luxury" modification. It won't improve traction, it won't make your Jeep more trail worthy, it won't improve gas mileage, nothing.
But, what it will do is, make it more pleasurable to drive and operate. I won't drag this out will all the fine little details. I'll just hit the highlights. If anyone is really interested in doing this little improvement to your TJ, PM me and I'd be glad to send you all the info you need for procuring the kits, prices and, any of the idiosyncrasies of the install.
I will say this. The install of the motor drive for the power windows and the motors for the power door locks, is actually very, very easy. There's ZERO modifications to ANYTHING. You simply remove the cable driven crank and regulator and, install the motor drive one.
As for the power door locks, there's pretty clear and concise instructions on installing those. Now, the wiring part, well, that's a bit more interesting. Not hard, just interesting.
The good part is, just like a normal factory power window equipped vehicle, you get a dual button panel on the drivers side and a single one on the passenger side. And, it goes right into the place where the crank handle used to go. So, in the end, it looks just like it came that way from the factory.
The power lock motors are seriously strong. They're Swiss made, not Chinese. And, based on the module that controls them, once you start the Jeep up, they lock the doors automatically. But, shut the Jeep off and, they also unlock automatically, just like a real car. Both the wife and I are tickled with out new setup. Feels like we modernized it by a century or two. And those windows are seriously fast in both up and down operations.
Anyway, again, if any of you are interested, PM me and, I'd be glad to pass on any helpful info.
