goufgators,
Well, we're on our fourth RV and, our first dog. We've been "Dogless" for just over 18 years. The kids flew the coup and I retired so, it was time for us to travel on and off. We would camp all over the place and notice folks with dogs. Some folks really pay attention to their animals, keeping them quiet, picking up after them, not letting them get out of hand, stop them from barking endlessly for no apparent reason and more.
And some folks, have them but could care less how much trouble they are to other folks camping around them. They don't pick up after them, they let their dogs to their business on other campers areas, they let them bark endlessly for no reason and say nothing and, they're right there with them.
So, when it came time for us to think about a dog, we really had to take into account, all the things we've seen and either like or dislike about traveling with a dog. My wife and I like a clean motorhome. We've been in some that the folks have either one or many dogs and you could weave a rug, or several rugs from the hair that the dogs have shed all over every inch of their coaches.
So, one of the "parameters" of us acquiring a dog was "NO SHEDING"!! Well, there's only a very short list of dogs that don't shed. One of them is a Schnauzer. So, we opted for a mini Schnauzer. So far, even after not having a dog for 18 years, that little machine is a crack up to have around. She's a rocket ship.
Her travel etiquette so far, is flawless. She's either asleep on the floor next to one of us or, in her bed, on the dash while we're driving. She's good around the campsite and only occasionally barking or whimpering as another dog goes by and she, of course, want's to go play with it, no matter if it's the size of an elephant or, smaller than she is.
We only have a couple of issues. One, we sometimes like to go out to breakfast, lunch or dinner and don't want to take the dog and, we're not happy with leaving her but, we've done it a few times in the time we've owned her without too much issue. We even carry a GL 1800 Honda Goldwing in the back of our toad, a pickup truck. And, I've set it up so the dog can go with us on our motor cycle rides.
So, at this point in time, we're fairly happy with the little girl on board. She's a ball to have around. She's not very big, about 12-13" tall and about 20" long. And the REALLY GOOD PART, NO SHEDING, AT ALL!!!!!
Scott
