Ford Delayed Warrantee Start Date and OASIS
Some time after we picked up our 2012 Excel from the RV dealer, whose reputation is not so good, the RV dealer informed us that they had lost the Pleasure-Way Customer Care Delivery Form and related Pleasure-Way Warranty Registration form that we had filled out on delivery day. We filled out a second form.
This left a nagging question about the Ford's delayed warrantee start date; since the Ford van is manufactured a noticeable time before Pleasure- Way turns it into an Excel. Did the RV dealer lose this form too?
This question led me to our local Ford dealer's service department. I asked if they could tell me when the warrantee started on the Ford part of our Excel. Using our V.I.N. their computer pulled up some information about our Ford using the Ford Online Automotive Service Information System, OASIS. Yes indeed, our warrantee started on the date we picked up the Excel. I also learned that our Ford was built on a Tuesday and confirmed that they painted the exterior "Oxford White".
This OASIS print out has useful information; I am glad that our local dealer is easy to work with. In fact, both of the two dealers in our Valley, Ford and Chevy, have been helpful and reasonable over the years. I suspect that our local heritage of ranch and farm families has made things better for us in many ways.
Relationships: The original Hankook tires were made three months before Ford built our truck. The Ford truck was built three months before Pleasure-Way made it into our Excel. The Excel was made 6 months before we got it. The originalcoach battery was shipped three months prior to the Excel build date.
One day we received a letter from Ford; Customer Satisfaction Program 12N04.
It seems that some V-8 automatic transmissions built at the Ohio Assembly Plant from October 5, 2010 through December 22, 2011 have a bearing cage that can come apart. If this bearing fails within 6 years or 150,000 miles of the original warrantee start date, Ford will cover the repair. Sadly, I expect power trains on my vehicles to last long after these limits. The coverage transfers to subsequent owners; unlike our Pleasure-Way warrantee. OASIS should now note this additional warrantee, for affected vehicles.
