Found: Front Cab Bed

Sportsmobile generally will not work on vans other than their own, but we were able to buy a front cab bed for our LTV Free Spirit Sprinter from Sportsmobile West in Fresno, CA. The bed has 2 collapsible legs and folds in 3rds for storage under the back seat. It has a separate cushioned pad with zippered cover. We were impressed with the fit since it has a cutout to fit around the gear shift so it can fit snugly against the dash. Falling out of bed would be next to impossible! We did have to go to Fresno to pick it up since they wanted to make sure the collapsible legs were the right height, but that was the only drawback.

how long of a sleeping surface does it provide?

The bed fills the entire front interior from side to side and from chair to dash. The platform is not readily available to measure, but the mattress is roughly 62" x 30". Therefore, you better either be a midget or like sleeping in the fetal position. Our 3 year old grandson meets both criteria! :)
  • Re. the horn - we lucked out since the horn doesn't work unless the motor is running!
  • You may not be able to fall out of bed but it's sure going to scare someone when they bump the horn :)

It's a great idea though. I like it.
