For the record, water weighs 8.35 pounds per gallon.

That said, we try to fill up at a water source that we would be happy drinking. Sometimes campgrounds have great wells, some are on city water and we carry a full tank most of the time.

Bottled for drinking.

Twice a year I throw in a couple of cups of bleach and drive it around, drain, rinse, and fill.

Twice on holiday weekends someone has hit a water pedestal and they've had to turn off the water to the entire campground to fix it. If you don't carry water, you're...dead in the water.:E

You have never really lived until you have showered in Pierrier and used it to flush the toilet. It should be on everyones bucket list. You never know where that cheap water may have come from. :B

I'm from the school of better safe than sorry. I never leave home without filling my 45 gallon fresh water tank all the way.

I have a 40 gallon fresh water tank, and do not dry camp. 40 times 7.5 lbs/gallon = 300 lbs of weight! I could think of several things I would rather carry around than 300 pounds of water!

Perrier maybe on sale, but you can get a case of good bottled water, 24 16oz bottles for about $4.99!

Some RV's have a gravity fill for fresh water, but many of the newer ones like ours require a pressure source to fill the fresh water. It creates a challenge when dry camping.

Have seen signs at some Campgrounds that specifically state that you can not connect to a faucet to full fresh water tanks. Perhaps because of the bottle necks it creates where people are blocking the road.

I have one of those water thief things that I use if there are no threads on the faucet. Picky about the water we put in our tank so I generally don't get water at gas stations.

Options when you can't connect to a pressurized water source:
1. Use the input where you put RV antifreeze in your lines. Just put the line in a bucket and turn on the pump.
2. Purchase an inexpensive 12v water pump and connect between fresh water input and a container.
3. I'm looking for a hand pump that could be used. Not sure if this would work but would like to try it. Has anyone else done this?

We travel with fresh water at least 2/3 full. I drink water from our fresh water system and use it for coffee, cooking, etc. If we are getting low on water I start filling a gallon jug of water from campground water source if water is of good quality. DW prefers bottled water to drink so we usually have a couple of gallon water containers around.

We have a filter on the cold water at the kitchen sink, have considered one of those filters that go in-line with your water hose. May try one of those in the future.

Most of our trips are 3-4 days and we're boondocking. So I fill up at home. This way I know the source of the water and I'm not looking for water at the destination.

On extended trips, I try to fill WHEN I dump, but not WHERE I dump. I've seen too many not healthy things happen to the spigot near the dump station.

I'll ask if there is a spigot nearby when I buy gas, groceries, food etc.

In campgrounds where I'm not getting hookups, I'll fill in an empty full serve camp spot. Or sometimes an extra length of hose is needed and maybe a "water thief" too.

Perrier is on sale for $27.69 for a 24 pack of 16.9 oz. bottles. It sure is a pita filling my 100 gallon tank though. :B
