RV Absorption fridges are slow to recover lost cooling......so 'lookie louing' with door open IS your real issue.
All the cold air escapes out the open door, warm air gets sucked in, close door and t-stat fires up fridge to replace lost cooling. That warm air cools off dropping the moisture out which then frosts up
When we FTd we would only have to defrost freezer section roughly every 3 months.
Very rarely did we have frost of fins in food compartment
But we had a real good idea what was in our fridge and didn't need to 'find it'......we already knew what we wanted to get PRIOR to opening door.
Lookie-louing and defrosting every 2-3 weeks may just be the normal routine for you......unless you can change DW and SON's habit.
