when the fuel gauge reads past full it means you have a open in circuit can be sending unit or brake in the wire you will have to find wire at sending unit take 12 volt test light ground end of test light to frame probe other end to sending unit wire should now read half a tank if it is sending unit bad if not brake in wire someware or bad gauge but gauge unlikly
