Never had your problems. I just go inside with the CC, fill, pull forward and get the receipt.
At FJ I use the GS Swipe & Save which sets the price to cash minus 3 cents/gal and starts the pump. Fill, pull forward and go inside and pay with a 5% cash back CC. ie At $2.03/gal I pay $1.90.
