Could be two things.  
On older motorhomes, the fuel line to the generator gets brittle and cracks with age. The cracks allow air to get in the line and the generator can't draw fuel
The choke lever gets rusty and won't engage. The lever is on the bottom of the carburetor and is horizontal. See that it is free to move, otherwise clean it and put some oil on it.
