Generator died and now RV trips house breaker

I have a 2003 Tradewinds DP. Had the RV plugged into the house all week (120v) no issues. Today I went out to the RV, unplugged from the house, started the generator and the 2 ACs. Everything was running fine for about 15-20 minutes when all of a sudden the generator died and now wont start. I go to plug back into the house (120v) and now trip the house breaker.

Any thoughts of what to look at?

Thanks!

  • The generator comes back with a code of 36. I just got it serviced a few weeks ago (oil/filter/fuel filter) so I am guessing it got hot since it is now 100 outside.

Looks like the 2 ACs were still on and tripping it. Should have double checked that! :) Thanks everyone.
  • Turn everything OFF in the coach BEFORE you plug in to shore power. Then try turning things on one at a time to see if anything causes the house breaker to trip. You did not say what service you have(20, 30, or 50 amps) so it is possible that with 2 AC's and other things, you just may be overloading your shore power circuit.
The generator could have shut off because of low fuel, low oil, overheating, etc. that may not be related to the shore power situation.
  • Cord connections...sounds like there is a dead short in the cord or possibly with the transfer switch if you have one (if you manually move a cord and plug the coach into the generator outlet....then it is the cord, since it shorts out the generator and trips the house breaker...the transfer switch if burnt or wires loose will do the same thing.
