Generator issues

Question

On our 99 Adventurer, on the range hood is an hour meter & start switch for the generator. When the start switch is pressed the generator will crank vigorously, but will not run. When the main generator switch on the dash panel is pressed, the generator will start right up. Anyone have any ideas on this issue?

Bad switch, connection on switch or in the wiring.

Maybe corrosion on the contacts.

My only guess would be that the switch has a ground for the spark for when you turn it off.  On the switch on your hood, the ground my be stuck thus not allowing your generator to get spark.  That is just my theory.  Good luck.  Let us know what you find out.
