Generator Smoking

I just changed the oil in my Onan 5500 Marquis Gold generator and when I started it back up, it starting blowing out white smoke - a lot! Anyone have this issue before or might know what would cause this ? Thanks.
  • Oil filter may need to be tightened. Oil could be dripping on muffler causing white smoke.
  • White smoke is normally moisture.
Run the genset set under a good load. Find enough to run unit at least 75-80 % of capacity. Both AC units and maybe an electric heater.

Ours did that last winter now and then when I started it to charge the batteries. One time it was pretty heavy and had the waxy diesel smell. It cleared up after it ran for a while. Ran this summer a couple times and seems ok. If it keeps up we are still under the two year warranty, I plan to have it looked at.

Where is your smoke coming from? The exhaust?
