getting van camper serviced

assuming you have a van camper-roadtrek-pleasureway-etc strictly a van

have you ever had a problem getting it serviced for having propane tank, being too heavy etc.

assume it's a dealer thatmakes the chassis

chevy for chevy

sprinter for sprinter

ford for ford

ram for ram(promaster)

thanks
  • I wonder if that is because Ford phased out the Econolines, so parts and tires are harder to find.

From what I know in my neck of the woods, Ford upfits may or may not be servicable, but because Sportsmobile is in the area, there are at least 1-2 "blessed" dealers which can service those. There are some "B"s sold, so both the MB and FL places have at least seen a "B" or two. Chevy places see conversion vans all the time. Which gets me wondering how the Dodge/RAM places will deal with upfitted PMs.

If I wanted the best dealer network for the van chassis, I'd go with Ford. For dealers which are versed with "B"s made in the past few years, I'd probably have to give the nod to the MB dealers.
  • While on the road, I've had very poor response from Ford dealers when I inquired about service. They usually say that my PleasureWay is too heavy for their lifts. The tire size for my Ford PW are specific for Ford Vans and two Ford dealers claimed not to have them npr have a ready source for them.
  • So far all of my service has been done by the mechanic that services my car at his service station. I have been fortunate not to need anything major done. He does not have the height needed for a lift so he uses floor lifts to get under to do whatever needs to be done under the chassis. I am very hesitant to take it to the Chevy dealer - as while they have a truck lift, when I went to them to tell them about the Roadtrek when I first got it to find out if they can service it, they had never seen one or any Class B before. It was like I was telling them that I planned to bring a UFO to them for service. I would rather that they not start learning on my Class B. In some areas RVs and Class Bs are common - not here.
  • Our experience with a PW Ford for 8 years has been the same as studio driver although the only problem we had with it was replacement of the ball joints at about 50K mi. Oil changes, lube, batteries, we had done at Walmart. I had the transmission fluid replaced at the Ford dealer. My observation is that the Fords are very reliable.
  • I have a 2006/7 Airstream Interstate and have had it serviced by 2 different, Sprinter equipped, Mercedes dealers in California. Never a question or problem. It is true however that not all Mercedes dealers can service Sprinters. By the way the services were for routine maintenance only as the Sprinter has been basically trouble free with an average MPG of 22, I am a happy camper!
  • We have a PW Ford Excel and never had any problem in 7 years. We do however take it to Ford dealers that are used to handle pick-ups, trucks, ambulances, etc.

Depends on what you want serviced. I have Pleasure way do all my coach stuff and Ford does my van stuff.

    thanks
