If you are occasional weekend Rvers and perhaps take one longer trip a year, then a 5th wheel is probably best for you. Motorhomes have a engine and they like to run.
If you already have a truck then a 5th wheel is for you - unless you plan on trading the truck for a car to tow behind the motorhome. It's a lot easier to sitesee with a car so most motorhome owners tow a car.
If you're retired and will be traveling a lot then a motorhome will be good.
We full-timed for 8 yr. in a 33' 5th wheel and loved it. However, we definitely didn't like having to drive the big truck around.
Friends got us interested in Jeeping so we got our 40' motorhome and tow a Jeep and used it for 8 more years of full-timing. We had more fun with the Jeep - and still do! We also traveled constantly and didn't sit in one place for a long period of time so the motorhome is ideal for us.
Between the two, the motorhome is more enjoyable to drive (we both do) and to ride. The ease of setting up is great. We love it.
