We just sold our 25 footer (27' overall) and looking to move up to a 31. Given they are the same chassis/engine, E450 V10, will mileage be much worse with the 31 because of its extra length and weight?Also, will the longer wheelbase 31" be more stable when flat towing my 3200lb toad? It would sway a bit with the 25' and sometimes make me nervous. Nothing dangerous, but I knew it was back there. I realize these are theoretical questions, but just hoping to get an idea of what to expect. We are looking at Fleetwood Jamboree or Tioga basement models and coming from the coach in my sig. Thanks for any input.

You won't see any difference in fuel consumption (the primary drivers to the MPG of Class C is the front end combined with the gear ratio on the E450 (geared to maximize power)). The sway is often a result of overhang behind rear axle as well as no tounge weight toad.

what 5M said. If the 31 has a decent wheelbase, it'll be a little more stable than a shorter coach. You WILL see how much bigger the turning circle is. If it has more rear overhang (rear axle to bumper) than the shorter coach did, a Rear Track Bar will help. So do proper tire pressures, and front end alignment with at least 5-deg CASTER on the Driver Side, 5.5-deg on Passenger Side.

Sway may be caused by worn bushing on the tow bar, or lose hitch into the mount.

Well, I woke up early this morning, and just didn't feel like going on the 9 hour round trip. Maybe next weekend. Although there is another 2007 Tioga 31w very similar to the one I posted, that is only an hour away. I looked at it last week and it is absolutely mint inside and only 7,300 miles on it. But it has been subject to the Nevada sun since new, so was starting to fade and had some graphic cracking. I'm kind of anal about the outside appearance, so I passed on it, at least for now. The problem with living in a small town in the high desert, is everything is so far away.

Wow, thanks for the links IAMICHABOD. Interesting little tabs for sure. The rig in your sig pic is pretty close to what we have been looking at, except with the 450 chassis.

Yea, I always thought that was funny. These 31' basement models have tons of storage area, but you can't use it all and stay at a safe weight. Our travels will be just the wife and I for two or three days most of them time no more than 100-200 hundred miles away and we aren't the type to pack the "kitchen sink".

We have not ruled out a shorter Class A with 19.5" tires, but not sure one will fit under our enclosed cover. Would be REALLY close.

You will have significantly less cargo carry capacity on the new one. The additional feet add additional weight to the same chassis and, especially, tires that your old one had. I had a 31 footer once and it blew a number of tires over the short time I had it. It was overloaded even though we traveled as light as we could.
