Going to attempt adjustment Power Gear slide

Well, DW and I had a great weekend trip with the middle son & daughter in-law in from Virginia. Went to Frio river and enjoyed the rain, cold, then bloody maries, cold beer, deep fried turkey and all the fixins.. :B

Cold front came through and wind was blowing pretty strong. I noticed water on the floor at my large slide. Not horrible, but enough that I know something wasn't right. After some investigation I noticed the top of the slide is not sealing against the wall along with the sides from the top down about 1-1 1/2 feet down the wall when extended. It's not a large gap (maybe 1/2" on top) and with the seals being in such great shape there is no wind or cold air coming through that I could tell.

Anyway, I have been searching like crazy and think I found what I need to try and make adjustment (minor each time) to level the room slide and make it seal tight. I have Power Gear slides and the large one has 2 slide out rails that are mounted to the frame of the slide on the far side away from the coach with 1 vertical nut and bolt that appear to adjust the outer side of the slide up or down and 2 horizontal nuts & bolts on each rail that look to lock the slide in place.
I actually noticed this evening at home in the garage the vertical locking nut was hand loose. Never had any problems before or never noticed it and I think the slide has slowly worked its way out of alignment.

Going to make small adjustments and give it a shot to try and keep from making anything non-functional. Hope it goes well.

  • Thanks, Fred.
I found the 111 page manual and read through it and in the troubleshooting it pointed to TIP sheet 82. After some additional searching, I found TIP sheet 124 that sure appears to be the same setup as my rails. It shows to measure 2 points on the extension rail and make adjustment based on the slide floor thickness. Problem is I don't know that thickness and why I'm going to make small adjustments at a time and check.

I did find the locking pins issue in comments as you mention.

I do see the top of the slide sucking in tighter than the bottom when closed, which tells me it is leaning top in, bottom out leaving a gap on the top when extended. Seems to make sense to me.

I'm going to give it a little try tomorrow and see how it goes.
  • There are manuals on the power gear web site, but they are hard to find. I have the power gear operations and service manual that covers most of their slides (111 pages).

If you need it and can not find it on their site, send me a PM with your email and I'll try to email it to you.

There are some slide rollers that are installed by the coach manufacturer and will not appear in the power gear diagrams.

I finally read the correct post and learned that on my Holiday Rambler, the slide locks must be installed to make the upper seal weather tight when the slide is in the retracted position.
