I'm a little skeptical that a steering system could be "too tight". Also, since the OEM damper is not a centering spring damper, I don't see how that could make it worse.
Have you had a chance to weigh the rig by axle? Ford requires 32% total weight minimum on the front axle. Most other trucks require 35%.
