GPS RV specific

I have 760 and works great for me although not foolproof. Coming down 101 on Oregon coast tried to reroute me due to low tunnel. I have driven that route many times with no issue. When I got to tunnel, warning sign of height at edge of road was (I believe) 11 ft but from white line to center was sufficiently high so not an issue.

I've had two Garmins, a Tomtom, a Good Sam Rand McNally, and MS Street & Trips on a laptop. They all do the job. But they all had there faults too. A couple years ago, I was in need of another GPS and this time, seeing how mature the industry had become, I just searched eBay for something. Found a MediaTek GPS for $50. AND, it comes with free worldwide maps updating, 7" color screen, touch screen, all sorts of built in stuff (because it's an android device), and I can set it for 'Bus' which routes me just like a Class A needs to be routed. Has US, Mexico, and Canada built in, and I can download any map I need (if I can figure out how to do it). It's worked great for over a year of travel so far. Including in Mexico.

Recent searches reveal several similar models. And the active mapping community keep the maps updated for free. Like an open source software community.

So, I won't be buying a $350 GPS anymore. heh.

Our Class A come with a Kenwood Radio with GPS that allowed one to enter height, width and a few other data points. Routes are programmed with the RV data the owner entered.

I have the slightly older cousin the Garmin Dezl 770, it is the commercial truck version, and does not have wifi auto update, or the full campground directory, but is otherwise very similar. It was a lightly used ebay deal from a OTR driver who had recently retired price was too good to pass up. Overall I like it though the speaker phone function is useless. Not yet perfect but a big step up from my 7 or 8 year old Garmin, I love the voice command, just wish it would work better.

Magellan males one and it has both the Rand McNally and Good Sam plus built in.

My wife has the Good Sam GPS. It uses Rand McNally data. You can set it specific for your unit. (height and width) She likes it a lot. I just go where I'm told.

One of the main features I like about it besides the large screen that's easy to see at a glance, is the loud speaker to give turning directions when needed.

I usually have the speaker off, but when I get into heavy city traffic where you often have to make sudden lane changes for the next exit, you can't always be watching the GPS because of all of the traffic. It's very nice to easily turn on the speaker and hear the instructions while you're watching the mirrors and traffic ahead.

If you also use it in your toad, remember to toggle it back and forth to either the MH or the toad setting so that you get the correct routing.

I have in dash GPS and I turn it off and use my 760 for the same reasons as Bill. The only fault I can find is the software will default to safe in RV mode, so if it doesn't have data about a specific area it will route you around it even thought you may have been fine going through it.
