Converters on the legal salvage market are worth plenty---one particular Volvo is around $600. My friend owns a salvage yard where all he does is scrap the cars, no used parts sales. First thing he does is cut off the converters. I have been there 3 times when he sold them and once he got $27,000, once $52,000, and once $98,000. He has a container full right now waiting to go. He don't deal with the thieves that are selling them for little or nothing to buy drugs but rest assured they are a very valuable commodity.
