There is a magazine (Popular Mechanics) that some years ago took a Ford Station wagon with a fake family.. Including a Ford Engineer (man actually worked for Ford in the proper area) and hit the road..They stopped at many repair places and got ripped off many times. They also found some honest dealers and some that went above an beyond.
One of the Television "Magziines" (60 mintues?) did much the same thing.. Only in this case they had a chase van (Camera wagon) following the vacationers...
One gas station the camera almost missed it but suddenly the car had a falt tire (The ice pick the attendant had might have been the cause.. Per the camera it was) and the shock was leaking (Camera caught him throwing oil on it).
The station WAS a brand name franchise... Before the brand field rep got a preview of the show.. by air time (By close of business on preview day) The station was no longer a Big Name Franchise. all of the brand's logo and product having been removed.
Another magazine (Popular Electronics) did the same thing with TV repair shops by the way.
In some cases (not sure at this late date which ones) the engineer on the team created a "problem" (like a bad spark plug wire or some other minor thing)..
I'm fairly sure that was the Popular ____ magazines not 60 min's.
