Hate to see...

I hate to see RV's that are apparently broken down and parked beside the road. Figured it would never happen to me (aka 'whistling past the proverbial graveyard'). But, it did! A couple weeks back we had a 'blow-out' on one of the MH's rear tires while driving south on I-75 just north of downtown Atlanta. (Did anyone see us parked there on the South bound side - Itasca pulling CRV?) Very glad that it didn't happen while driving through downtown Atlanta with no place to pull over. We were, however, able (thankfully) to pull over to the side of the highway and get safely (I hoped) off the highway. My DW quickly reminded me to get the red reflectors out and place them behind the MH. Something else that I thought I'd never have a need to use. Wrong! Did that and then called Coachnet.

Great service from Coachnet. They had a tire company truck on-scene in about 30 minutes and a new tire mounted in about an hour and we were again on our way.

I know longer labor under the false impression that being stuck along side the highway happens to others and not me.

Water weighs in at 8.5 pounds per gallon. 4 _ 500 pounds will do it on some rigs when fully loaded. I suggest most folks have idea as to what they weigh going down the road. Do you?

They did not have a tag axle Liberty

Wallynm, you are right, they said they had a TT. Either the tires were under inflated or the axles are under rated for the TT. A full tank should not push them over but it apparently did. I would want to know my exact weight if it was an issue.

And, they didn't check the tank levels? I guess I check everything before departure and I know some things can be missed.

Hope the OP has better luck on their next outing.

Happened to me July 25 last.. Still broke down, Just parked on a site and enjoying where it happened (S.E. Georgia, about 50 miles from FL line via 95)

If I got to break down,, Parked 21.5 miles from my daughter's house, not a bad spot at all.
  • In this season when we are called upon by our better nature to remember "there but for the grace of god go I," it is good to have the reminder from real life that "stuff" happens, and not just to the other guy. Good to hear your tale of woe was no worse. May that be the very worst thing that happens to you all year.

  • It comes with traveling whether just in a car/truck, or motorhome/TT, etc. We do what we can to be prepared (emergency service, items carried, preventive maintenance). But it happens. We blew a tire on our TT on I-55 one winter on our way to south-TX, called the emergency service and was back on the road in an hour. But will not travel without a spare so we pulled off and spent the night till we could buy a replacement. Then we found out that when the TT was at the dealer for hot-water heater maintenance, they filled the grey water up while serving the heater and didn't empty it. Hence all the weight blew the tire out. Oh well, stuff happens.
