Help!

Considering that you have checked your starting battery and your starter connections and all is OK. You might look on your steering column for a "Neutral Safety Switch". They do get old and wear out. I had to replace mine after exploring and replacing parts in my starting system. I replaced the neutral safety switch and by golly it started right up. just a thought. good luck.

Apperantly the "in gear" lockout works and was still engaged. In other words, it thought it was still in gear.

There's so many relays and such for lockout and especially with DP's, between the ignition switch and the starter's main solenoid, that I've since put in some button bypasses in the engine compartment.
Generally speaking, it's gonna turn over, if the batteries are up and if not, then, it's the starter or main solenoid and as long as the ignition is on, it should start.
I used this circuit, quite a number of times, when having intermittent problems and it sure beats crawling around down under and/or scratching your head. Maybe even for having to get a tow.

engine cranks but doesn't start?
Turn key and silence?
Turn key and clicking?

If you've got a smartphone, take some video and upload it someplace.
The more you can share the more helpful others can be.

Check engine light, battery light, etc. come on when key is turned as well as the backlights for the switches on the dash.

Ford chassis, gas engine. Gauges don't move when key is turned to the electrical position. Sitting less than 12 hours originally.
