Do you know what vehicle your headlight housing came from? Some of them work ok with plug-n-play kits, some will need a new housing, and some will need a new housing and projector lens conversion.
My E350 stock housing had a diffuser lens, so no good for HID. I swapped in some clear Euro lenses which are designed with an HID reflector (I tried Halogens first, and only got about 8' of light coverage) which works pretty good. The beam has a "hot spot" but it's in the middle where you want the most light anyways, and it does not have any scatter above the cut-off. My sisters and mom's cars both have projectors and they have a very sharp cutoff and a very uniform pattern.
