Typically the cause of poor lighting on a MH is poor connections or inadequate wiring, causing voltage drops to the headlights. An easy fix for this is to rewire the headlights using relays. Makes a world of difference. You would likely need relays if you change up to a higher wattage bulb, as well; no bulb works very well on 8 or 9 volts.
