I started tent camping before I was born when I left on a camping trip with my father and came home with my mother a little over 73 years ago. Or so I was told by my mother many years later... ;)
As I was growing up, I would often take off for a few days into the woods next to our house with just the clothes I was wearing, a small tarp, and a small pack with some food and fishing gear. My parents knew where to find me, and I always took one of the family dogs with me. Later on in my teenage years with a driver's license in hand, I would go tent camping in the Adirondacks for weeks at a time during the summers. After a stint in the US Army with 3 tours in Vietnam, I married and my bride and I tent camped a few times, but then we bought a VW Westfalia camper conversion, and began motorized camping. From there on, we progressed through TT's, TC's, a couple of Class C's, a DP Class A, and then a gasser Class A that we sold when we bought our current Class A. Oh, and I still sometimes go hiking and tent camping in the Adirondacks with our twin daughters.
