It started in a tent, on a lake, in Maine. The year was in the mid 1960s. Dad was in the Navy. By the end of the 60s, after going through Pensacola, Fl and awhile in San Diego, the tent became an Apache tent trailer. That rig traveled from San Diego to Pensacola and back to Maine. My own Boy Scout career thrived in Pensacola. Then the dream stalled.
By the mid 70s, there was period of epic backpacking, followed by the beginning of my own military career.
By the early 80s, I found my life partner and the tenting resumed, across Arizona, Wyoming, Minnesota and North Dakota. It became time, once again, for a pop-up tent trailer. That trailer traveled from North Dakota, to Californina, back through Arizona, spaces in between, the Gulf Shores of Alabama, the Smokie Mountains, Kissimmee Florida and back up to Maine. Then two years in a travel trailer, followed by eight years in a fifth wheel. These rigs never went far, only from many annual trips to Eastport, Maine and one trip to Vermont. Good years.
Two years ago, we arrived in our Class A RV. A 2008 Winnebago Destination, bought through EBay. Last year was the first road trip to Niagara Falls. This year's road trip is to Cape Bretton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.
In several more years, we will retire and hit the road until that time is over.
