The OP's problem sounds just like the problem I'm having right now with our RV's Suburban furnace ... and I'm not sure which of 3-4 things could be causing it because it won't stay broken.
I'm expecting a new Dinosaur Electronics control board for it today and I'll begin the problem solving by installing it. If that doesn't do it ... then I guess that at least I'll wind up with a spare furnace control board.
By the way ... I'm REAL impressed with the OP's colorful way of saying "an intermittent problem". ;)
