Several years ago I installed special stainless steel screens over the water heater outside vents and the furnace outside vents. These are supposed to be fine enough mesh to stop all insect invasions.
What I'm afraid may be my furnace's intermittent (won't stay broken) problem if the new control board doesn't solve it is - a sometimes sticking solenoid activated propane valve - which I think in my case will take a furnace removable to replace .... ugghhh! :(
