Mr. Nichols,
Thank you very much for this update! I haven't made any decisions or purchases yet, as i have until February to resolve this issue, and the furnace still works most of the time. The trailer doubles as my home office certain days of the week, and if the furnace doesn't feel like working, i have a small space heater to warm me.
If the RV repair shop happens to note any definitive failure points, please let us know.
Regards.
OK ... here's my report on what was wrong with our RV's Suburban furnace and how the repair shop fixed it. (Reading this whole discussion from the beginning would help understand.)
Last January our furnace started acting up about the same as the OP in this discussion described what their's was doing. This summer ours started just not coming on at all ... much. This August I installed a new Dinosaur control board. The furnace then seemed to function OK again. However, a few weeks ago the furnace would not put out any heat again - just the blower working.
In desperation a few days ago I took it to a reputable RV repair facility. They said the control board was the cause again - corroded and burnt looking solder connections on the board itself.
The cause for this - a leaking kitchen faucet that we knew had been leaking for years that is located right above where the furnace's control board is below. We thought that the leak was just on the sink's surface from the inside of the faucet's mechanism, so we always just wiped the water away with a cloth. A couple of years ago I had taken the faucet apart and tightened it up and cleaned it up, and the leak seamed to have gotten less, but never completely gone away. I did not want to tackle replacing the faucet because it was so difficult to get at it from below.
I had the RV repair shop put in another new OEM control board and also install a new kitchen faucet.
We have a trip planned in January, and so far the furnace has functioned perfect during a few test tries. I'll keep testing it ever so often before we take the trip.
What a freak thing this was!
