If MPG was the only factor for us, our coach likes 62MPH depending upon terrain and whether our Allison 6speed is in Econ mode or not. With that said, I am very aware of traffic conditions around us and will adjust our speed to fit the situation so as to not cause undo stress with other motorists. I am finding that risky driving antics are the largest factor in vehicle safety and I find that by driving the speed limit or slightly above, others are much less impatient and seem to take fewer chances around me when on two lane roads. On interstates with a 70-75 MPH limit, 68-70 for us is comfortable so that closing speed of those behind us is lessened and also it is a speed that limits our need for changing lanes a lot to pass others. I will gauge our speed with what the majority of others are doing in large rigs. I drive professionally at times too, so am very aware of those trying to make a living with their trucks and buses and will accommodate their need for getting there safely with my driving speed and our need to get there safely.
