63, seems to be the best for economy and still make good time.
I guess that's where so many people differ as we never considered owning or bought a motor-home, until time was no longer of an essence.
We did have a TT and rented an occasional coach, but even then, it wasn't so much for speed in saving time, as it was for spending a lot more hours on the road. I still say that you can't control one of these behemoths, like you can a car and especially in an emergency situation.
Hey Trop,
I don't think anyone is disagreeing with your statement. We all know that our multi-ton motorhomes can not stop like a car, truck or SUV, etc.
We have a six speed retarder on our coach. I can use it manually by the stalk or with the switch on the steering wheel 'on', the retarder kicks in the second I apply the service brakes. It starts to help slow us down by using the transmission 'retarding' and it works very well.
But, I still know that we can't stop our 54,000 lb. vehicle on a dime even thought the toad has it's own braking system. I try and keep a nice distance in front of me and I'm certainly not the fastest on the freeway.
As I mentioned before, I did take our bus up to 70 mph on a long 700 mile stretch in Texas over a two day period where the speed limit was 80 mph. I felt like we were just idling. Obviously people were still passing us. When you can see for miles and miles and miles without anything in front, it's kinda nice to 'open her up' even though consequences of a failure of any kinda grows with speed (and we all know that).
Safe travels,
MM.
I understand, but it also burns more fuel and puts wear and tear on every one of it's parts, of which there are many.
As for a safe speed comparison, among vehicles and according to the posted speed limits, many of the older folk, will remember when trucks had something like a 10mph lower speed limit than cars and most sure that the only thing that really changed here, was the big money lobbying by the trucking industry.
