Good article and as for stopping distance requirements and besides driving at or near min speed, I stay a long way from whatever is in front of me. Another plus concerning this, is you seldom have to take it off speed control and the distance required for safety in front of you, is taken care of automatically by others, in most cases.
With max tire speeds, how many have ever looked that close at their tires and/or have any knowledge thereof? I mean there are some out there, that don't even check their tire pressures, let alone bother to put air in them. Many more have no idea how old their tires are and don't have a clue about how to find this out.
Now all they have to do, is to run their rig at max speed limit on an old set of tires, follow too close behind the ones in front of them and the recipe for disaster has been written.
