Trop, we generally go slow (60-65)..... but, if you need to get somewhere in a timely manor, the fuel usage is not important. Driving west across Texas on the I-20 to the I-10 from Dallas..... makes me want to stick a butter-knife in my eye.

Again, I understand. Just do it a little differently and the last time, with and unexpected death in the family and no way for giving ourselves more time, we just drove late into the night, instead of our usual early afternoon stops. Didn't go any faster, however and might have spent an extra hour on the road in all that distance. One extra stop for anything, if going faster, would have killed the extra time involved, however.
I mean what did people do, during the 80's and when the speed limit was set at 55 by the US Gov. and not get where they were going?
I know what they did, CB's sold out the ying-yang (I had one too)...... I remember driving from Memphis to Nashville to visit my sister and her family. It was torture, especially, when you are 18 yrs. old and 55 mph seemed like walking. LOL!

I think we all did the CB thing and now it's cell phones.
In my youth, I drove a car, like a maniac and a wonder I survived along with others on the road, of which there was a lot less of than today. A whole lot less, in fact.
With the RV especially, these days, lowering the speed limits wouldn't be a problem for us and we don't even have to slow down for emergency vehicles off to the side of the road, if we can't get over. Usually do anyway, though. Besides that, we seldom have to change the speed control between interstate and off interstate travel.
Really have it made, actually and don't experience the nervousness I once had and see on the road each and every time we're out, with people trying to get somewhere in a hurry. However, running these obstacle courses make up a good part of their daily recreation, cuz I know for a fact, that they won't be leaving any earlier tomorrow to get where their going.
Anyway, just my opinion in the way I see things, nowadays and all in fun, while discussing it.
