I as just driving on I495 North on Mass and I was passed by a Monaco Monarch doing around 80 MPH. It was swaying from side to side as if there was a wind issue but there was no wind. Also he was towing a trailer and that was swaying quite a bit. I see DPs doing 80 quite often but never see gassers like this one doing it. The man was making tracks for sure.
When I drive my rig I tend to do so between 55 and 65. That is my comfort range with my 37' gasser. What is yours?
Depending on what year Monaco Monarch it was, it could have had the GM 8.1L engine and Allison transmission, which like my Monaco, will do 80MPH, and then some. ECM fuel shut off is at 5000 rpms. 65 MPH cruise is about 2200 rpm's.
I wouldn't recommend going 80 MPH since he was probably exceeding the speed rating of his tires, but the drivetrain would certainly allow it.
Me, I drive as fast as I feel comfortable with that day, depending on road conditions, weather, traffic, etc. It has served me well for about 300,000 miles in various Class A coaches. If I worried about fuel mileage, I would not have an RV.
