I dont think you need to set a time or distance if you can. Drive till you want to stop or when you find something interesting to look at. When I was active duty 24 hrs was the norm, when I retired from the army usually had 2 weeks off so drove till almost dark, now we have summers off and we drive at out leisure. Last summer left tucson around 10 drove to van horne tx around 450 miles and stopped there, met with friends who left an hour or so earlier than we did. Drove next day to Johnson city tx stayed there because of all the peach orchards and thought it was nice area. So unless you are limited drive what you want and or need to meet your requirements. Yes we travel the interstates mostly, but will go smaller routes if we see something advertised that looks interesting. We are not tourist trap types so look for other places to visit and there are many out there and you really dont need to drive the byways to find them, plus have less chance of an encounter with locals who have ulterior motives (ie. law officers) which we have seen a few of, although never stopped with any rv.
