Many good comments here and much food for thought I travel with a large Catahoula and we often take breaks just to stop and smell the roses. Counting gas breaks, etc., I can average 40 mph. for the time I'm driving that day. So if I decide to drive 9 hours, I will cover about 360 miles. When traveling i use Wal Marts, Flying J's, Catholic Churches, and rest areas for a rest. I recently completed a workamper position at Glacier National Park and drove 2100 miles to East Texas in 4 days. Don't care to do that again! Stayed in the best WalMart's I could find. In one town I wasn't able to find the WalMart and the city police escorted me to the location. Now that's what I call serving the public. The solution is to drive what you are comfortable with! Baby Girl (my Catahoula) and I have done 23 states and over 20,000 miles and have more planned for 2015. We will most likely be driving 200-300 miles per day and smelling as many roses as possible!
