The conventional wisdom around here is that if you must run the engine, it's best to get it out on the road an bring oil temps up high enough to boil off any moisture. If you can't do that, it's best to not run it at all.
I do run the genny once a month over the winter making sure to put a load on it (ceramic heater works).
