how much should I budget for this???

Hi All, I am digging into my latest quest for a used class A (first one after owning towables) So my loaded question is how much would one budget for maintainance per year for a 12 year old deisel pusher with 40k miles currently on odo and planning under 4000 miles a year?
I know this varies widely but I need a realistic idea of what($) should be put aside for this, barring any major malfunctions, and also not neglecting anything. Thanks for the input

  • Predictable annual maintenance is something around $350 for oil/filters change, $750 for tires ($5,000 every 7 years), $150 for batteries ($600-ish every 5 years). A few other things factor in like an air filter ($150-ish) and water filters ($50). You aren't driving it a lot but occasionally the air dryer and brakes need service too.
  • No considering any major problems, and leaving a fund for new tires out of the equation, I would say $500/year should do it for basic maintenance. Basically you are looking at fluid changes and lubrication and an occasional belt or hose.
  • Ah yes good point.. i would do my own dentistry if I thought it would work, so yes I typically do as much as practical myself. Stuff that takes specialized tools / knowledge would have to be farmed out
  • Parts and labor or just parts if you are going to do a lot of the maintenance yourself?
