How much weight can I put on bumper of 36' gas Class A?

Hello. I am in the process of purchasing a 2008 Georgetown DS350 gas Class A at almost 36 feet. I would like to put a motorcycle on the rear bumper but I don't want to unbalance the RV. The RV is spec'd at 500lbs/5000 lbs for towing. Wheelbase is 228".

I would love to put my buell (around 500 lbs) on a bumper rack but that just seems to be pushing it.

So, for similarly sized RVs how much weight or what type of motorcycles/scooters have you put on rear mounted motorcycle carriers?

What about folks hauling trailers with significant tongue weight? Not toads.

How have different weights affected steering/handling for you?

    Yes, bicycles would be fine.

  • Just for reference you can look at the hitch itself. Every hitch has the ratings on it for weight.

With a CCC of less than 2,000 lbs NO YOU CANNOT. 500 for the cycle plus 200 for a rack is going to put over 1,000 lbs on your rear axle.

Wow. By the time you add people, water, and options, I'd be surprised if you could carry dinner.
  • That much weight that far behind the drive axle ill make for an unpleasant driving MH. It already has the gas tank and the fresh water tank plus the two waste tanks which have variable weights..

Ok, any idea how much weight I could put back there? Worst case is that I put my bicycle on a rack, but even a little motorcycle or scooter would be nice.

Did you mean on the hitch? I doubt a bumper would hold much. Typical hitch on a gasser has #500 weight limit and that's static. I would think the motorcycle being at 500# bouncing around would exceed the limit and possibly cause a failure.
