I've used all three of my 2800's extensively... 2 in B's previously, and now 1 in a C. Overnight for air conditioning or heat, at quick rest area stops to heat lunch or supper, in the AM to heat up coffee and instant oatmeal. I've done extensive modification to quiet this one down, but it's in a compartment, unlike most B's.
Personally, I wouldn't have a B or C without a built-in generator (with the _possible_ exceptions of RT's Sprinter & Tiger's Malayan). IMO, that's necessary to make it 'fully self-contained'.
I dunno how much importance to put on this, but I think Onan's latest generation of 2800's (& 2500's) has the electronics to give trouble codes, and use the 'QG' prefix... which I think stands for 'Quiet Generator'. I offer this without further comment, having not listened to one myself.
