We traveled all over the U.S. and Canada in a PW Excel for 7 years without a generator and were glad we didn't have one, they are a high maintenance item. We camped with full hookups, no hookups, stayed in family and friends driveways and in hotels. You can't run a generator after 8 PM in public campgrounds anyway so they are no good to run the AC at night for sleeping. Where summer weather is hot and humid, state parks nearly always have electric sites.
The main use I have observed for generators is for people to keep their RV cool for dogs when they leave them in a hot parking lot.
We just got a new PW Pursuit that came with a generator as standard equipment. The main use I can see for it is to cool the RV when stopped for lunch on a hot day. Our solution to that problem in our old van was to stop at a Taco Bell or Burger King. We might also use it after a hurricane when power is out at home. Just my opinion.
