We've had the Roadtrek for less than a year, so there haven't been that many generator opportunities. We lost power for 3 days during both Snowmageddon & The Derecho, so it would have been nice to have had it then, and it made things a bit easier during a couple of short power failures this year.
There is a nice oceanfront state park not too far away that only has one loop with electric. Having a generator opens up the much larger number of campsites there without electric, and that may also be true for other areas that are not as high on my radar. I might be willing to stay in such areas even without the generator, but that'd be a tough sell for my wife.
One can certainly do fine without a generator, but what do you gain? A bit of weight saved & a little out-of-the-way storage? Unless the money is really tight, most people would probably find the possible uses for a generator reassuring even if their own use was limited. Probably helps resale, too.
