When we bought our Motorhome, upgrading from a Hybrid Travel Trailer, we really didn't see why we'd need a generator. Now that we have it, we couldn't imagine not having it. We take our Motorhome to the beach and the local park for day trips often. It can get pretty hot in the middle of the day and use the generator often to cool the rig down using the roof top A/C. On really hot days while traveling, the dash air is not enough as others have mentioned and the roof top A/C is a must.
On our last camping trip, the campground lost power for about 12 hours (a transformer blew just outside the campground). Had to run the A/C in the morning to get rid of the humidity in the camper that built up overnight.
It might not be something you use all the time, but when you don't have one and need one, you will wish you did.
