How to read a digital multimeter, to measure batteries

I have a "Sperry DM-210A" digital multimeter and I'm trying to measure the voltage of my RV batteries.I'm trying to measure the voltage on a 6volt battery (golf cart battery) and a 12V deep cycle batt...

The meter uses the internal battery to generate a reference voltage. If the battery is too weak the reference will be low, causing a higher than realistic reading.

Replace the battery and retest.
