How to remove vinyl bottom of front overhead cabinet?

I want to remove the old TV box from the cabinet above the dash. Mine like many of the 2003 vintage have that fake leather, vinyl that goes under the cabinets. I'd like to be able to remove the whole bottom and replace it with a vineer covered plywood.

I'm not finding much in the forum on online about how to remove the cabinet and replacing or modifying the bottom. At the moment I've taken out the old TV and just put a board in the space to hold the mount for the new LCD TV but I don't like the looks of the old box hanging down.

Any thoughts or directions to a web site that might better guide me in my quest?

  • I did it a few years ago in 1999 model. There were several wood screws holding things together. They were covered by little vinyl covered buttons that I had to pry off. Once they were out the bottom just dropped. Good luck.
  • I would just start looking for exposed screws and remove them. These things are usually not that complicated, pretty simple construction.
