HR Class A shopping, and need information

I am shopping for a late model Holiday Rambler or Monaco DP, around 2006-2009 year. I looked at the following

2007, 2008 36 & 40' HR Endeavor PDQ
2006 40' Ambassador PLQ
2008 Neptune XL
2007 Diplomat

I really like the Endeavor/Diplomat with the RR8R chassis and 400hp diesel. The Neptune is out with the lesser chassis. I drove it and the RR4R does not ride as nice as the RR8R.

The Ambassador is supposed to have the same RR8R chassis as the Endeavor/Diplomat, but the sales guy told me that there was a difference in the brakes between the Ambassador and the Endeavor, the Endeavor being a bit more robust. I could not find anything to that effect on their site?

Any thoughts?
  • I have a 2009 SKQ...wife loves it...been reliable and with 20K miles has done 4 regens..all on the highway...I've seen the try to regen light flash a few times but that does no harm..all I know is I do highway drive it and usually the first trip of a season it will do it and then go out...The Cummins ISL is a great engine...although I do notice a few hairline cracks in a tile or two...but that's just me being picky...that front kitchen floor plan was a must for my wife...and I have to say I like it as well...despite it being built in Indiana rather than Oregon...the August before the Monaco bankruptcy...
  • Worth mentioning the Knight as well. Knight is monaco's sister to the HR Ambasador. Both have a rear radiator ISC cummins.

Endeavor / Diplomat are identical except they add the 400 HP ISL, still with a rear radiator layout.

Except for the engine, all 4 are identical, same floorplan options, same interior colors, same or similar exterior paint.

The 2008 and 2009 use a "deisel particulate filter" in the exhaust system to comply with federal emissions law. Every 5000 to10,000 it "regenerates" the filter, which takes near 30 minutes. Other than the light on the dash, you can't tellnything is happening. They do want you to roll on down the highway while it's going on.

    No DEF until 2010.
  • Ditto on everyone's comments so far. As you can see, I have a 2007 36' Endeavor PDQ and love it. Great coach.

One issue nobody has talked about yet is the engine year. In January, 2007, new diesel "smog" devices had to be installed. Later, there were more stringent rules placed on diesel engines. Thus the reason for my coach. I purchased my coach as a 2007 model, but it uses a 2006 Cummins engine, therefore not requiring the new smog equipment. At that time, neither Cummins nor Cat could tell what effect the new equipment would have on their engines. So, I took the plunge to diesel sooner that I planned.

The DW really likes the 40-foot plan in the PDQ model. I'm not sure yet.

The salesman's lips were moving.......The brakes an HR RR8R chassis are the same, no matter which body line is installed.

I thought that was the case, thanks...
  • Hi we have a 2008 HR Ambassador 40SKQ and love it. The big difference we find is that it has the front kitchen which makes for a nice living dining area. The chassis and brakes are exceptional for ride and stopping.
    Hope this helps

You were very smart to pass on the RR4R chassis, as that is the one with the safety recall on the trailing arms that can cause a catastrophic accident, if they fail at hiway speed.
