We've made the trip 3 times towing. The first time was in a 33' Winnebago towing an 07 CR-V. The next two times we were in our current 35.5' Mountain Aire towing the same CR-V. In each trip the only problem we had was when our 110 lb dog smelled the ocean Pismo Beach. He jumped up on the dash and scared the #### out of me. If you take your time and pull over ocassaionally to enjoy the views you'll have a gooc trip. Check out Carmel, Fernwood RV Resort in Big Sur, Hearst Castle in Cambria, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach and Santa Barbara, theres so much to see on the coast drive that you won't be disappointed. If you decide on 101, I would recommend 1 south from San Francisco to Monterey, a short drive to Carmel (take the 17 mile drive). From Monterey take 68 over to Salinas and head south on 101. Make sure you spend a day or two in Paso Robles wine tasting. From there it south to San Louis Obispo and then onto Pismo Beach.
No matter what you decide you should have a good time.
