- sdianel_-acct_cExplorerin West Memphis AR there is Tom Sawyer's RV Park right on MS River exit 280. Long level pull thrus. There is also Southland Park Gaming and Racing with truck and RV parking. Nice place to eat inside. Exit 280. There is also Flying J and Pilot same exit. Cracker Barrel at exit 278. Not sure if sites long enough at Cracker Barrel. There is also a Walmart right off I-40
- RoyBExplorer IIThe West side of Memphis I40 is loaded down with Heavy BIG Truck Traffic going in all directions... Got to be on your toes tip towing between all of that...
Roy Ken - John_JoeyExplorerI would be concerned with safety in that area. If I was forced into an overnighter off of I40 that was free I would check for Cracker Barrels with bus parking. I would then give them a call and verify it's OK (and safe) to spend the night there. I've had good luck with that procedure and the managers will tell you upfront if you should keep going down the road to be safe.
- csjag1Explorerwe are from Memphis, and make frequent weekend trips to Tom Sawyer RV Park. We have never had an issue there. It is away from the truck traffic, quiet, and the river is wonderful.
it is about 2 1/2 miles from the interstate, but well marked. I would suggest, calling ahead, they stay full. It is a Good Sam Park - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIWe have stayed at the Graceland RV park and it is very nice, very safe and very quite (not sure where all the negative comments are coming from). The poster above mentions Tom Sawyer and being from Memphis I would also consider that as a viable stop. Memphis is NOT a bad place to stop or a place you should avoid and it's not something you need to "tip toe". There are very few places in this great Country of ours that is not loaded down with heavy big truck traffic (Atlanta is MUCH worse) but these guys are the reason you can stop by Wal-Mart and get what you need. Trucks are not the enemy. For the most part, those stupid 4 wheelers are the ones that will cause issues with your drive.
Think back.....How many of the accidents you have passed in the last year involved a big rig and how many of them involved 4 wheeler's? Enjoy your travels and stay at one of the parks mentioned. If you want to visit Graceland, use my selection! - Preacher_ManExplorerTom Sawyer is nice, clean and the laundry is free...we've stayed there numerous times over the years.
- mike_brezExplorerAfter staying in Nashville for awhile and hitting Braodway strip every night and then driving a couple hundred miles to Memphis and staying at Graceland RV park now that was a culture shock.
The park is imo just ok. If it wasn't for Graceland being directly across the street and the tourist thing next door it would be out of business. Beale street is a dump with low life's all over the place and filthy.
Went down the street from the rv park to pick up some supplies at I think was a Walgreens two young men standing at the exit with street clothes with guns on their hip.
I guess they were security but who knows. This is why my wife and I both carry firearms werever we go legal or not.
We were suppose to stay four nights but stayed two and got the hell out of there.
Did a long day 700 mile drive to Berlin Ohio Amish country WOW what a differance. - Mr_Mark1ExplorerThe OP needs to tell us is he going east, west on I-40? There are several good places but we need more info.
If he is swinging south in I-240, there is a nice park just over the TN boarder in MS. If they want a good safe East Memphis place just off I-40/I-240, the Agri-Center at Walnut Grove and Germantown Parkway is a nice stop.
Safe Travels,
MM. - grldstExplorerForest City Walmart a few miles west of Memphis, easy off/on of I-40, park along the outside edge of parking lot. Also had best price in the area for diesel.
- doxiemom11Explorer IIMy son is a truck driver and has told us NOT to stay at any truck stops in the Memphis area.
